Italian player failed doping test

von Daniel Drepper

Italian football professional Leonardo Pavoletti failed a doping test, the inspectors found Tuaminoheptan in his urine, a stimulant. Pavoletti plays for AS Livorno at Serie B. The italian football federation took the sample after Livornos 3:2-Win over Sassuolo on December 26, 2012.

Yesterday the Olympic Comitee of Italy (CONI) made the case public. Background information: Nasal sprays contain Tuaminoheptan. But that’s true for a lot of stimulants so that a lot of athletes use the excuse that they accidentally took the wrong cold medicine. As far as we know Pavoletti didn’t comment on the positive test until now. Thanks for the link to Robert Kempe.

[Update Januar 16, 2013, 15.20: Pavoloetti doesn’t play at Livorno, but at Sassuolo – We got that wrong reading the original italian report by CONI. There was also a statement of Sassuolo yesterday: The club will make an urgent appeal against the suspension. The presence of the stimulant is due to the use of a nasal spray, according to the club. And: The player „duly declared“ the nasal spray in the doping control.]
