In ihrer ersten datenjournalistischen Geschichte fand Olaya heraus, dass eine Gesetzesänderung im Ausland lebende Spanier davon abhielt, ihre demokratischen Rechte wahrzunehmen. Gut also, dass sie für CORRECTIV seit November 2019 als Chefredakteurin arbeitet. Sie berichtete zehn Jahre lang über Wirtschaft und Finanzen beim wichtigsten spanischen Radionetzwerk Cadena SER. Im Lede Program der Columbia University in New York entdeckte sie ihre Leidenschaft fürs Programmieren. Ihre datenjournalistischen Recherchen veröffentlichte sie später u.a. in El Confidencial und El País. Daneben brachte sie anderen Redaktionen und akademischen Institutionen datenjournalistisches Arbeiten bei und koordinierte ein entsprechendes Master-Programm der Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) und Unidad Editorial.
