Partners of the OpenNews-Fellowship are the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, National Public Radio NPR, the investigative documentary program Frontline PBS, Vox Media and CORRECTIV. The OpenNews fellowship is organized and sponsored by Mozilla and the Knight Foundation. The fellows get a monthly salary, accomodation and a travel budget.
Our fellow Sandhya studied at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University and worked during her studies for several radio and TV stations. Later she worked as a datajournalist for USA Today as well as the regional papers and TV stations of the E.W. Scripps company.
Since 2014 Sandhya worked in Washington DC for the renowned Chronicle of Higher Education. Sandhya is responsible for different datajournalism projects. She will probably come to Germany in February and will work with us in our offices in Essen and Berlin.

As a datajournalist at CORRECTIV Sandhya will support the intersection between developers and journalists. With Sandhya we want to strengthen our international data projects and get new ideas how to approach data- and document-driven journalism. Sandhya on the other hand wants to know more about freedom of information laws in Europe – and aims to learn German.
The fellows will not only work in newsrooms, they will also travel a lot, attend conferences and work on international projects together. We will try to bring as much of this spirit to Germany as possible. We are curious and look very much forward to our year with Sandhya and as a member of the OpenNews community.
