CORRECTIV.Europe has been working on Ukrainian independent media ecosystem since 2024, starting with a research study Revitalisation Ukrainian Local Media – Research and Recommendations and continuing since through two active projects. The study – a joint initiative of Ukrainian Media Fund and CORRECTIV – examined the challenges facing local, independent outlets and set out recommendations for their long-term sustainability and growth.
Building on those findings, we have launched two projects to support local and regional Ukrainian media:
The Media Innovation Lab and Exchange Program, run with the Media Development Foundation, aims to strengthen collaboration between Ukrainian and European investigative journalists through an intensive training program and professional exchange.
The training program is primarily designed for Ukrainian investigative journalists and focuses on developing skills in data-driven journalism and community-centered investigations. It also promotes cross-border collaboration and knowledge-sharing among investigative reporters across Europe. As part of the exchange component, members of the CORRECTIV.Europe network will have the opportunity to visit Kyiv and gain first-hand insight into the realities of journalistic work in Ukraine. Later, four Ukrainian investigative journalists will participate in a three-week residency in Berlin, where they will work closely with the CORRECTIV team. Through the program, Ukrainian journalists will become part of the CORRECTIV.Europe network, enriching it with their unique expertise and experience.
Community Engagement Hub: CORRECTIV x Ukrainian Media is implemented through a strategic partnership between CORRECTIV.Europe and the Lviv Media Forum and aims to strengthen the diversity and resilience of local journalism in Ukraine.
As part of the project, five independent Ukrainian media outlets receive training and mentoring from CORRECTIV journalists and experts to develop participatory and community-centred approaches to journalism. The programme is tailored to the specific needs of the participating media outlets and combines group training sessions with individual guidance and support. Participating media outlets also receive grants of up to €10,000 to pilot new community-oriented formats and develop more sustainable revenue models. By the end of the project, the participating media outlets will join the CORRECTIV.Europe network, enabling them to stay connected with journalists and media organisations across Europe, exchange knowledge and experiences, and build lasting professional relationships.
